This is usually accomplished with a sitdown/phone call/skype where you describe the problem and scope of the project. Enough information is gathered to where I can produce a written proposal oultining the project deliverables and cost estimates.
Steps Involved In Developing Models
As with all projects of this nature, it is highly collaborative. Constant information/discussion is ongoing. If you cannot be available, a designee is encouraged to be appointed.
First stage:Get the data in a form that you can work with(usually Excel, or csv files).
All "R" programs input "csv" or Excel spreadsheet like tabular data. This affords the client a certain degree of safety, in that, only select information they deem appropriate is gathered and distributed for analysis. The client remains in control. At this time a review is conducted for completeness for missing or unbounded data elements.
Second stage: Plot the data to get a feel for what is going on (data visualization).
Scatter plots,Panel charts, Histograms, Time series, etc.
Third stage: Model development.
Linear? Multi Linear? Poisson? Time Series? Simulation?, etc.
Fourth stage: Iterate between graphics(stage 2) and models(stage 3) to build a succinct quantitative description of the data.
Final stage: Analyze the model results and publish the outcomes.
